PARENTS SEEKING SAFER, GREENER LIFESTYLES TURNING TO NEW WEBSITE
“Green Mom Finds” Helps Parents Navigate Eco-Friendly Living
Sacramento, CA (April 20, 2008) – Fed up with toy recalls and the increasing number of reports about children’s everyday exposure to environmental toxins, parents are turning to a new online resource to help them make safer product choices.
Green Mom Finds (http://www.greenmomfinds.com), which launched just two months ago, is already attracting thousands of hits a week and a growing subscriber base of parents looking for safer, more environmentally-friendly products and services.
“As moms ourselves, we understand how scary it is to hear news reports about lead in toys, carcinogens in baby shampoo and BPA in bottles and formula,” says Izzy Dean, mother of two, and site co-founder. “Now more than ever, people are wondering if the choices they’re making are safe but weeding through all the available information out there can be very overwhelming.”
That’s where Green Mom Finds can help. Visitors to the site will find daily bite-sized reviews of a variety of products and services that are safer and greener than their conventional counterparts, as well as product giveaways and discounts to green e-tailers. Beyond product reviews, the site is also a resource for parents looking for tips and ideas on how to tread more lightly on the environment.
“We don’t want to be a site just about stuff,” says Cristina Acosta, mother of two young boys and site co-founder, “especially since an important part of going green means buying less stuff. That’s why our site offers tips and resources on earth-friendly living, too.”
To that end, the site’s “Green Directory” features a multitude of free resources for green-minded parents and has proven very popular with readers, some of whom come from as far away as Israel and Norway.
Their down-to-earth approach is part of the appeal of the site, which has received praise not just from parents, but also from environmentalists:
“I’ve seen my fair share of eco-parent websites and I’m so impressed with Green Mom Finds,” says Amanda Hanley of The Environmental Working Group’s Enviroblog. “[They’ve] really managed to strike the perfect balance between stuff and useful information, which is a difficult task, and [they] do it while being genuine and not at all preachy.”
Fielding a dozen or more inquiries a week from parents looking for products or resources to fill their needs, Acosta and Dean are happy to assist readers in any way they can and in the process, they hope to make the world a little bit greener.
